Sludge as a waste stream
Sludge from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment is a wet, high-moisture waste that is costly to transport and landfill. Incineration reduces its volume and recovers its energy content.
Co-incineration with waste
Rather than a dedicated plant, sludge can be co-incinerated with municipal solid waste. Qingfeng's three-stage grate furnace maintains stable combustion even with 20% sludge in the waste stream, alongside agricultural waste and kitchen residues.

The Changning County waste incineration industrial park processes 10 tons/day of sludge together with 120 tons/day municipal solid waste and 10 tons/day kitchen waste, demonstrating integrated sludge treatment at county scale.
